Yellow and red leaves fell outside, leaving the driveway buried under a multi-coloured carpet. His arms were around her waist as they watched the leaves make their descent. They had toyed with the idea of going for a walk in their favourite woods, but decided against it, purely because the air had started to get biting cold. Besides, the inside warmth and lure of cuddles and films on the sofa was so much more tempting.
She turned in his arms, burrowing her face into his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat that kept her grounded.
One of her hands gripped the fabric of his hoodie and she started to play with it absent-mindedly. He smiled and wrapped his arms tighter around her, feeling like he was a cocoon of safety, ready to protect against anything that wanted to harm her in any way.
A crunch of leaves from outside sounded as a passer-by walked by his house
but he didn’t bat an eyelid. The feel of her beside him was enough to keep him oblivious to the outside world. He bent down to kiss her forehead and she gave a soft giggle in response.
She stretched out an arm in an attempt to look for the blanket that was usually kept on the arm of the sofa but his hand caught her wrist before it got any further. He kissed the back of her hand before releasing it and she curled up once more. He reached for the blanket and threw it half-heartedly over the both of them before snuggling further into the sofa.
